In a resort town where tourists and bears collide, it’s up to the Bear Whisperer to keep the peace.

A bear’s summer is all about food -- packing on enough weight to make it through the next winter hibernation. In rare cases, bears in Mammoth Lakes will break into trash bins, cars, even houses in search of easy pickings. It’s the job of Bear Whisperer Steve Searles to use aversion therapy to teach them that bad behavior will be punished.

But this season one bear in particular is a hard case, a troublemaker who has dozens of break-ins to her credit. Everything Steve has tried to stop her bad behavior has failed. A year ago authorities placed her on the “shoot to kill” list, meaning law enforcement was authorized to kill the bear. But the bear disappeared and escaped. She returns this year with a cub and the results are tragic.
